Day 9

Thursday May 4
This morning when the contractor joined the crew he brought a truckload of plant debris from another job and they unloaded it from the truck into the dumpster in our driveway. It looked like it was mostly bottlebrush. In any case, today started the planting phase. The foot lights were installed by 7:30. By the end of the day the new edging in the front was installed, and all the trees except the majestic magnolia were planted. But there is a problem with the trees on the west side. We never went over with the contractor exactly where we wanted the trees or why. It is important that the south-most tree not shade the veggie garden, and we wanted maximum screening from the upstairs windows of the next door neighbor. Unfortunately in the positions the trees were planted, the vegetables will be shaded and we will not get much screening. Since a trees last a long time and never will they be easier to move than when they are young, we let the contractor know of the problem, and he said he would have the trees moved for us.

All of this did not come from our yard!
